The Sudep Project “Supporting the Southern Neighbourhood Partnership cities in implementation of Sustainable Urban Demonstration Energy Projects” regarding to ENPI proposals, with the mainly purpose of improving the capacities of local authorities to develop and implement sustainable energy efficiency practices and renewable demonstration actions.

The consortium consists of Applied Research Institute-Jerusalem (ARIJ) as an applicant for one hand and on the other the co-applicants Local Authority of Tubas Municipality (Palestine) and GEREDIS (Spain).

The proposal is based on the implementation of net-metering photovoltaic systems to supply 6 public buildings located in Tubas Municipality (Palestine), making possible an efficient exploitation of renewable energy resources; increasing its contribution in the energy balance sheet and raising energy efficiency for lower energy bills and environment protection.

From the perspective of its energy sector situation, West Bank and Gaza is in an unusual position in at least three respects. Firstly, as a small energy market with no developed domestic resources of commercial energy, it is almost entirely dependent on imported energy supplies, specifically electricity and oil products.

On the first stage of the project GEREDIS has been responsible of Project Engineering of the net-metering photovoltaic systems for each of the buildings where the final installations will be implemented. Firstly a development of a comprehensive study of the actual gap in Palestine identifying its most common energy needs, locating the main hot spots and identifying the best practices. To do this, Geredis together to ARIJ compiled all the available information about energy sector in Palestine.
